ECM Certified as a Minority-Owned Business

E Central Medical Management (ECM), a New Hyde Park-based medical billing and management company, has been certified as a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) by the New York State Division of Minority and Women’s Business Development.

Founded in 1999 by partners Louis Burke and Bert Lurch, the company has expanded beyond its original mission of providing outsourced medical billing services to independent practices. ECM is now a full-service medical consulting firm offering a suite of management services to primary care and specialty medical groups of all sizes. ECM clients may take advantage of the company’s expertise in credentialing, risk management, human resources, coding, out-of-network collections, marketing and an array of other back office functions.

In order to achieve MBE designation, ECM had to submit an application including background and financial information on the company and its principals. A certified MBE in New York State must prove that it is at least 51% owned, operated and controlled by individuals who are Black, Hispanic, Asian-Pacific, Asian-Indian or Native American. As a certified MBE, the company will be listed in New York State’s directory.

“This is an important step for us because it positions us among an elite group of minority-owned businesses in the State, and sets us apart from our peers,” said co-owner Bert Lurch.

“This recognition is an affirmation of the hard work that we have expended over the past decade and a half,” said co-owner Louis Burke. “We pride ourselves on having created a diverse workplace where our employees who hail from many different backgrounds feel welcome and valued.”
